Lager is life for Utopian, who started brewing in the spring of 2019 with a mission to create a family of lagers made entirely from British ingredients in a facility that ultimately will be powered by sustainable resources.
According to Managing Director Richard Archer, ‘We believe lager drinkers have been largely bypassed by the craft brewing “revolution”. We can see no reason though that they don’t crave the more interesting, quality products from independent producers just like the IPA drinkers and we intend to help redress the balance by creating a range of interesting but accessible craft lagers.
‘Our rural site has many advantages over more urban locations not least that the local water, drawn from the farm's own natural source, is soft and well suited to the production of lagers. The ready availability of additional space also facilitates the installation and operation of a range of sustainable energy sources, including biomass boilers and solar panels, which will not only reduce our carbon footprint but also operating costs.
We have an absolute ambition over time to make the brewery a carbon-neutral facility
Utopian’s debut beer is its British Lager, which is inspired by the Helles style, to be followed by a Pilsner and a range of other speciality and seasonal beers.

Utopian British Lager, 4.5%
Lightly carbonated and crisp on the mouth feel, this is Utopian’s calling card to beer drinkers, with a hop grist of First Gold and East Kent Goldings providing light orange citrus on both the nose and the palate.
