Barnaby’s Brewhouse is one of most truly sustainable breweries in Britain. Designed and built entirely from repurposed and second-hand equipment it is powered by innovative in-house technology.
We brew using solar energy and are effectively off grid. We pride ourselves on eradicating waste and creating value from our by-products. We are certified organic by the Soil Association and are the current holders of the Taste of the West Environmental Sustainability Award.
We are currently working with Impact Labs / Plymouth University on two sustainability projects - one to capture and reuse CO2 from the brewing process (trials show that introduced at leaf level in poly tunnels it reduces pests and significantly increases yield), and the second to create a balanced energy showcase in the reclaimed barn which we are now redeveloping. We will use this building to provide genuine evidence of our ecological credentials and to counter the greenwashing from some marketing-led brands.
We are also partnering with the Exeter branch of Enactus (a campus based student charity raising funds for sustainable start-ups) to develop a revenue stream for them through sales of our trademarked EthicAle.
Genuinely handcrafted, our organic lagers and ales are made with natural spring water and conditioned traditionally over time. They contain no colourings or additives ensuring a clean and flawless taste – perfect for food pairing and suitable for vegans!
